Sedella - the local area

Casa Tunel and Casa Rachel are in the lovely village of Sedella which is on the edge of the Sierra Tejeda National Park (easily accessible from the houses). All the village amenities, shops, pharmacy, restaurant and bars are within easy walking distance as are the two swimming pools which are open to the public during the summer season. The peak of La Maroma provides a spectacular backdrop to the village with its narrow, winding streets lined with whitewashed houses. It is a quiet and traditional Spanish "pueblo blanco" where the goats are still driven daily through the streets and mules are still a form of transport. In the bars, shops or on the street the villagers themselves offer a friendly welcome.

The surrounding unspoilt countryside is carpeted with wild flowers in spring and is a haven for bird watchers and nature lovers. This is an ideal base for hiking, biking or relaxing in the beautiful countryside with a picnic - guided walks are available from the village and locally there are jeep safaris and horse riding.

There are many small towns and villages within easy reach which are worth visiting. Competa (16 km) has some excellent restaurants, an English bookshop, art galleries and craft shops to browse in.

The nearest beaches are 45 minutes away at Torre del Mar, Nerja with the blue flag beaches of Burriana and Torrecilla is an hour away. The Nerja caves and the pretty coves at Maro are a further 3 km. Lake Vinuela is a 40 minute drive. Further afield, Malaga has many museums including the famous Pabo Picasso museum, an excellent market and many interesting shops. Cordoba, Sevilla and Granada (for the Alhambra Palace) are all within reasonable driving distance as is Gibraltar if you fancy some tax-free shopping.
